THE RESORT / SPRING SUMMER ‘23 COLLECTION IS INSPIRED BY BERLIN-BASED FEMALE ARTIST, ALICJA KWADE. ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED VISUAL ARTISTS OF OUR GENERATION, KWADE PLAYS WITH PERCEPTION AND INTERPRETATION OF TIME AND SPACE THROUGH SCULPTURAL INSTALLATION. WHILE VIEWING THE KAUSALKONSEQUENZ EXHIBITION AT THE LANGEN FOUNDATION, CREATIVE DIRECTOR ANNA HAAS WAS STRUCK BY THE ARTIST’S EXPLORATION AND MANIPULATION OF FAMILIAR MATERIALS.

CHAINMAIL STRAPS AND SNAKE CHAIN DETAILS BLEND INTO FABRIC, GLOSSY SEQUINS LIQUIDISE GARMENTS, AMORPHOUS 'STONES' PUNCTUATE DRESSES AND FLUID SILKS ARE GALVANIZED WITH METALLIC FOILING. GLISTENING EYELASH YARNS ILLUMINATE MOONLIGHT POWER KNITS, WHILE HAND-EMBROIDERED BUGLE BEADS ACCENT LUNA POWER KNITS FOR INNOVATIVE TEXTURE. For the first in our MARRIED IN GALVAN journal series, we speak to Claire Bals — the sister in law of GALVAN’s creative director Anna-Christin Haas who wore bespoke GALVAN for her wedding in Northern Italy.
Claire tells GALVAN about Godfather heatwaves, Chuck Berry and gut feelings
What did the day look like? — what aesthetic did you go for and what was the starting point?
We got married in Italy in Trieste, near Venice, in a castle perched on a dramatic cliff overlooking the sea, in the peak of summer. They had predicted an epic heatwave, so we went with it and gave the wedding a touch of The Godfather's wedding scene, when Michael marries Apollonia... without the drama though! We wanted the decor to have that authentic classic Italian style, which bathes in nostalgia, as the scenery was so cinematographic. My wedding veil is inspired by Apollonia's, it was antique Italian lace, with a few rips which apparently bring good fortune. I loved the contrast with Galvan's modern dress and clean cut.
Most memorable moment from the day?
As expected it is all just a wonderful blur and this probably shouldn't count as my most memorable moment... but I showed up late to church because my bridesmaids and I had ordered pasta to the room and enjoyed it so much that we forgot the time. I hope my husband doesn't read this, I don't think he knows to this day why I was late! Joke aside, it was filled with so many wonderful moments, such as our friends all fighting for the microphone to sing, with more or less talent.
Do you have one key piece of advice for any nearly-weds?
I wouldn't want to add to the endless list of advice nearly-weds get from their close-ones.
‘As with every big moment in life, I would go with what feels right to you, and not take too much advice even if well-intended.’
Why did you choose GALVAN for your wedding?
I didn't hesitate a moment, I always wanted my dear friend and sister-in-law Anna-Christin, Galvan's Creative Director, to design my dress. I think we only did one fitting and the dress of my dreams was created, there was absolutely no hesitation, it was perfection.

Galvan's designs just have that right balance of chic and sensuality, which I always seek in occasionwear. I wanted the dress to show my best features as it's the key to a timeless design, that you can look back at with pride.
